New Daytona Beach International Festival to Continue Tradition of Cultural Enrichment, Expand as World-Class Cultural Destination - Posted: 18-Oct-07
|
For more than 40 years, the widely-acclaimed Florida International
Festival has been a treasured high point in Central Florida's
cultural scene, bringing the London Symphony Orchestra and a
jaw-dropping roster of other world-class musical artists to perform
in Daytona Beach. Following the recent completion of the 2007
Festival the new Daytona Beach International Festival (DBIF) was
formed, with unprecedented support from the City of Daytona Beach,
Volusia County, the Daytona Beach Racing & Recreational
District, and with continued strong support from the private sector
to embark on an ambitious plan to take the Festival to even greater
heights.
'Building on its remarkable history - inspired by the unique
vision of Florida International Festival Founder, the late Tippen
Davidson - the Daytona Beach International Festival is a natural,
positive evolution of an organization deeply committed to improving
the quality of life in this community, and to broadening the appeal
of the area as a diverse visitor destination,' said Lester
Kaney, Chairman of the Board of Directors. 'The reformation of
the Festival includes a new name, an enhanced vision and a strong
sense of commitment to success. We strongly believe in developing
the Festival into a world-class cultural destination
event.'
Devoted to growing and promoting the cultural appeal of Daytona
Beach, the DBIF will continue to produce the popular two-week,
biennial music festival featuring the London Symphony Orchestra and
dozens of concert performances by artists from around the world.
The next festival event featuring the LSO will take place from
April 17 to May 2, 2009, bearing the organization's new name -
Daytona Beach International Festival.
In addition to the biennial Festival, the DBIF will maintain a
strong and permanent presence as a concert presenter and event
promoter through the year with world-class concerts and special
events showcasing the finest artists in classical, jazz, folk,
country and world music. The 2007-2008 concert activities and
events will be announced later this month and will begin in
December.
'This new organization plans to play a much broader role than
being a concert music provider and promoter,' said Eric
Lariviere, President of the new DBIF. 'DBIF, with the unmatched
brand brought by its long-time artistic partner the LSO, and in
collaboration with the community's other outstanding arts
organizations, business partners, and the enhanced participation of
the Convention and Visitors Bureau, has an important role to play
in the global perception of Daytona Beach as a vibrant, eclectic
place to live, work and play. To reposition our biennial Festival
with the LSO in the springtime is a critical first step to succeed
in accomplishing this ambitious goal. '
According to Lariviere, the new Daytona Beach International
Festival, with the continued support of its valued sponsors,
countless fans, and dedicated volunteers, is firmly dedicated to
leading the way in making Daytona Beach a premier cultural
destination in the southeastern United States.
Stay tuned for more information about DBIF and the
soon-to-be-announced 2007-2008 concert activities and events.
